Milbank Advises on a Third Sovereign Bond Offering for Sri Lanka

International law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP represented the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on its US$1 billion offering of 6.25% Bonds due 2020, which closed in early October.

“This was another smoothly executed sovereign bond offering by Sri Lanka,” said Hong Kong-based securities partner Joshua M. Zimmerman, who led Milbank’s team. “Sri Lanka has joined the exclusive club of Asian repeat sovereign issuers.”

Milbank previously represented Sri Lanka on its debut US$500 million debut sovereign bond offering in 2007 and its follow-up US$500 million sovereign bond offering in 2009.

Sri Lanka’s latest offering was underwritten by BofA Merrill Lynch, HSBC and The Royal Bank of Scotland. Milbank associates Adrian Yeo in Singapore and David Wertime and Michael Lu in Hong Kong assisted on the deal.
