Salans advised CICC, J.P. Morgan and Citigroup (“Joint Sponsors”) in connection with the secondary listing of Kazakhmys PLC on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange by way of introduction. Kazakhmys, whose shares are also listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, is one of the top copper producers in the world. The SPO has made Kazakhmys the first ever Kazakhstan based company listed in Hong Kong.
Salans acted as the Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan counsel for the Joint Sponsors in connection with the listing. The team of lawyers was led by banking and finance partner, Abai Shaikenov.
Commenting on the deal, Abai Shaikenov said: “We were very pleased to assist the banks and Kazakhmys with the secondary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Kazakhmys is the first Kazakhstan based company to be listed in Hong Kong. China is a natural choice for capital raising for Kazakhstan’s natural resources sector, and we hope that the listing will help Kazakhmys realise its development initiatives.”
