White & Case Advises the Qatar Investment Authority in US$250 Million Investment by the Qatar Asset Management Company

Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised the Qatar Investment Authority (“QIA”) in connection with a US$250 million investment by the Qatar Asset Management Company (“QAMC”) in an investment vehicle sponsored by Barclays Natural Resources Investments (“BNRI”), a business unit of Barclays Bank Plc.

Pursuant to the investment, QAMC will co-invest US$250 million in BNRI’s current and future portfolio companies. As part of the investment agreement, BNRI also will establish an investment management presence in the Qatar Financial Centre in Doha, Qatar. The transaction marks the start of the Qatar Financial Centre’s efforts through QAMC, and with the support of QIA, to attract the asset management industry to Qatar, and to build Qatar into a regional asset management hub. The transaction is expected to be the first in a series of similar transactions by the QAMC with international, regional and local investment managers.

The White & Case team advising QIA was led by partner Zeeshan Ahmedani (Abu Dhabi/Doha) and associates Barry Schachter (New York), Nicola Rosenstock (New York), Maryanne O’Connor (New York) and partner Nicholas Greenacre (London) and supported by London associates Johanna Johnson and Helen Joseph.
