Reed Smith Builds its Corporate Practice in Hong Kong

Global law firm Reed Smith has announced the appointment of Gregory Wang to its partnership. Gregory will join the firm’s Hong Kong office on 1 September from Morrison & Foerster.

Gregory advises clients across Hong Kong and mainland China on capital markets transactions as well as domestic and outbound investment. His capital markets practice includes Hong Kong and U.S. equity offerings, as well as high-yield and convertible note offerings. He also advises on private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions and public company advisory work.

“Many fast-emerging Chinese companies, in addition to executing their China investment strategies, are taking advantage of the changes in the global economy and exploring opportunities for outbound investment,” commented Roger Parker, Reed Smith managing partner for Europe, the Middle East and Asia. “Gregory’s formidable capital markets experience will complement our Hong Kong and mainland China team, particularly in their Hong Kong and U.S. funding-raising activities and also their outbound investments in the United States.”

Reed Smith’s Hong Kong office (which operates as Reed Smith Richards Butler) has a market-leading corporate practice advising clients with, or seeking, listings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board (H share, red chip and non-PRC businesses) and GEM (having been appointed by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to draft the GEM listing rules). With over 50 lawyers, the firm’s Hong Kong and mainland China corporate team (including the Beijing and Shanghai offices) works together to support clients seamlessly on capital markets transactions in a wide range of sectors including: energy and natural resources, shipping, life sciences, real estate and insurance.

“Our clients increasingly need one firm to support their global efforts,” said Denise Jong, corporate partner in Hong Kong. “Our Hong Kong and mainland China capital markets team offers an integrated service both in local jurisdictions and also with our colleagues in the United States, and Gregory’s arrival is going to strengthen that offering still further.”
