Recognized U.S. Law Firms Operate Branches in Asia

Though thousands of law firms operate in Asia, international companies with headquarters or branches in the United States are bringing in coveted industry awards. The market for legal recruitment in Asia is currently exploding, and if you are a legal professional seeking employment, you’d be best served looking for positions in this geographic area.

For example, a press release announced Chicago-based law firm Sidley Austin LLP was just named “USA Law Firm of the Year” in the Who’s Who Legal annual awards. Sidley was also named global “Trade and Customs Law Firm of the Year 2012.”

“It is such an honor to have been named USA Law Firm of the Year for another year,” said Thomas A. Cole, co-chair of the firm’s Executive Committee. “We greatly value this recognition by our clients and peers.”

Perhaps most intriguing is that the award coincides with Sidley Austin’s 30th anniversary of business operations in Asia. The firm has exactly 1700 lawyers spread across the globe, but maintains large offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

In addition, Law Fuel reported that Davis Polk was named “International Deal Firm of the Year” during Asian Legal Business’ (ALB) 2012 Japan Law Awards. This global law firm maintains a branch in Tokyo, and this particular location has won the ALB award four out of the past six years. The firm operates out of three U.S. cities as well.
