Akin Gump is pleased to announce that Paul Greening will join the firm in Hong Kong as a partner in its oil and gas practice, effective July 20. Mr. Greening, who focuses on international energy, utilities and infrastructure projects as well as energy-focused cross-border M&A, comes to Akin Gump from Vinson & Elkins. With an expected move to Akin Gump’s Singapore office later in the year, Mr. Greening will bolster the firm’s oil and gas capabilities across Asia.
“The energy industry continues to be a significant focus for the firm, both in Asia and across the globe,” said Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Paul is a first-rate lawyer and a strategic addition to our team who has deep experience in the oil and gas sector. Working alongside our lawyers in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, he will be a great fit with our firmwide energy practice.”
Mr. Greening has advised on matters involving energy-related cross-border M&A, divestitures, oil and gas contracts (including natural gas and liquefied natural gas sale and purchase agreements), project development and associated maritime law advice. He has worked on transactions involving clients, projects, companies and assets located across the Asia-Pacific, Russia, Australasia, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. His clients have included state-owned enterprises and private oil and gas companies, project developers and private equity funds.
“There is a very strong demand across Asia right now, particularly Southeast Asia, for the oil and gas industry knowledge that Paul possesses, and I am thrilled to welcome him to the team,” said Gregory D. Puff, head of Akin Gump’s Asia practice.
“Akin Gump’s energy team is not only involved with some of the most sophisticated transactions in the energy sector, but also has an excellent global platform,” said Mr. Greening. “The opportunity to help expand the firm’s reach across Asia and add depth to its global team is one I could not pass up.”
Mr. Greening, who is qualified in England and Wales, Australia (NSW) and Hong Kong, received his LL.B. and B.E., both with honors, from the University of Melbourne.
