Alistair Duffield to join BLP as Singapore Managing Partner

International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has appointed corporate lawyer Alistair Duffield as the managing partner of the Singapore office.

Alistair is one of South East Asia’s most highly regarded mining and natural resources experts. He has been based in Singapore for more than twenty years and has worked across the region, particularly in Indonesia. His specialisms include asset and project finance, M&A and energy and offshore projects and he is currently head of Corporate Finance, South East Asia at Holman Fenwick Willan. He has previously held senior roles with White and Case and Deutsche Bank AG.

Alistair will join with a team of five other lawyers from Holman Fenwick Willan, who include Tahirah Ara, Marius Toime, Brendan Fyfe, Elesse Neuteboom-Law Sook Ying and Erline Herrmann. This will more than double the size of the BLP Singapore office, which opened in 2007.  Since then, BLP has attracted a host of blue-chip client and high-profile matters and advised clients from across the region on a range of issues from M&A and joint ventures to asset finance and derivatives.

The move is the next phase of BLP’s  strategy for South East Asia’s emerging markets.  The firm has invested heavily in recent years to build its international capabilities, including opening offices in Moscow and Abu Dhabi. It has also continued to strengthen its relationships with independent law firms around the world through its preferred firm panel, enabling it to offer clients both the highest quality legal advice and the flexibility to select the best local lawyers for each assignment. As a result of the success of these investments, well over a third of the firm’s work now has an international element.
