Continuing Its Expansion in Greater China, Jason Kuo Joins Troutman Sanders in Hong Kong

Troutman Sanders LLP continues to expand its practice in Greater China with the addition of Jason Kuo to the Corporate practice in Hong Kong. Kuo was previously a partner in the Hong Kong office of Sidley Austin LLP.

“Jason is highly regarded for his handling of large and complex corporate finance transactions, making him a valuable addition to our corporate finance practice,” said Eric Szweda, managing partner of the firm’s Hong Kong office. “He has handled some of the most sophisticated corporate transactions in Asia over the last two decades, with an emphasis on equity and debt offerings by issuers from the PRC and the Asia-Pacific region.” Kuo’s experience includes mezzanine financings, high-yield debt offerings, tender offers, private placements, pre-IPO venture capital investments and Luxembourg listings. He has handled transactions involving issuers from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Vietnam, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan.

Kuo began his law career as an associate in the New York and Hong Kong offices of Brown & Wood, one of the legacy firms of Sidley Austin. He is a native speaker of both Mandarin and English, having grown up in Asia and the United States.

“Troutman Sanders’ growth in the region since the opening of its first Asia office in 1997 has been built on our commitment to help clients expand regionally and globally,” said Andrea Farley, Chair of the firm’s Corporate department. “Jason’s cross-cultural background, combined with his knowledge of the legal market in the region and his experience in the international investment banking community, will further broaden the scope of our corporate practice.”

“I am very pleased to be joining Troutman Sanders – a firm that has pursued a focused growth strategy in Asia and that has demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving its culture and consistently delivering excellence in client service,” said Kuo. “The firm provides a great foundation on which to continue expanding my practice. I will be working with a wonderful team of supportive colleagues.”

Kuo received a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota, and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
