Davis Polk Welcomes Seasoned, India-Focused Capital Markets Lawyer to Firm’s Hong Kong Office

Davis Polk & Wardwell today announced that Ferish P. Patel, a capital markets lawyer specializing in complex international transactions in India, has joined the firm as counsel in the Hong Kong office. The addition of Mr. Patel provides Davis Polk with a senior lawyer to handle the increasing volume of international capital markets activity by Indian issuers and to augment the firm’s market-leading Asian high-yield debt practice.

Mr. Patel comes to Davis Polk from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he spent more than seven years representing investment banks, issuers and private equity firms in connection with high-yield and investment-grade debt and equity issuances, minority investments and leveraged buyouts. In 2009, Mr. Patel honed his focus on India-based transactions by serving secondments at two leading Indian firms – AZB & Partners followed by Amarchand Mangaldas – where he handled an array of significant deals involving Indian companies.

“As a senior lawyer focusing on international capital markets transactions by Indian companies, Ferish is ideally suited to serve Davis Polk’s continually expanding client base in India and elsewhere in Asia,” said Thomas J. Reid, Davis Polk’s managing partner. “We have built an elite team of Hong Kong-based lawyers, and Ferish will play an important role for the firm as we continue to expand our presence and client roster there.”

“Ferish is one of the few lawyers in the region who has actually practiced at established, India-based firms,” said William F. Barron, head of Davis Polk’s Asia practice. “His experience in complex Indian capital markets transactions coupled with his capabilities on high-yield debt matters in Asia make him a great fit for Davis Polk.”

“Ferish epitomizes excellence in lawyering that Davis Polk stands for,” said Kirtee Kapoor, head of Davis Polk’s India practice. “His coming on board reaffirms our commitment to working on Indian cross-border transactions, especially capital markets transactions.”

“I am excited to join Davis Polk’s leading international capital markets practice and to help further expand their impact in India and broader Asia,” Mr. Patel said.
