Freehills appoints new chair of its Board

Freehills’ Board has appointed partner Mark Crean as the firm’s chair.

Mark has 20 years experience as a partner and has served on the Freehills Board for the last three years. He also served as head of the firm’s Corporate group from 2002 to 2006.

Freehills CEO Gavin Bell congratulated Mark on this new role within the firm.

‘Mark has continually demonstrated strength in leadership at Freehills,’ he said. ‘He has established several successful practices and was an important leader in helping the corporate team establish its leading position. With his deep understanding of our business and partnership, I have no doubt that Mark will play a key role in the firm’s future success.’

Mark takes over the position from Robert Nicholson, who has chosen to step down from his position on the Board after serving a term as chair and nine years on the Board.

‘Robert has significantly contributed to the firm’s strong success and market position during his service on the Board,’ said Bell. ‘He has provided strong leadership and guided the firm well through the GFC to its current strong position.’

Nicholson’s position on the Board will be filled by Corporate partner Al Donald.

Freehills’ current Board is made up of seven partners and two external advisors, Helen Nugent and Garry Hounsell. Freehills is one of the few top-tier firms where a third of its Board members are women.
