Eversheds Ramps Up Middle East Offering

Global law firm Eversheds, named recently as one of the fastest growing law firms in the UAE by Asian Legal Business, has announced a series of appointments and secondments as the firm continues its rapid Middle East expansion.

The firm has bolstered its Middle East offering with the appointment of two partners and one principal associate who have joined the firm’s Doha office. The appointments follow swiftly on from the Middle East partner hires of energy specialist Tim Armsby and corporate expert Muhammad Arif Saeed who joined the firm earlier this year.

Dani Kabbani joins the firm as a partner from Simmons & Simmons. He has been living and practicing law in Qatar for the past 15 years and has extensive experience working with government bodies and companies on a wide range of commercial and corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity transactions. Having previously worked with Qatar Petroleum for 7 years, Dani has also significant experience advising oil and gas and construction companies on project related agreements and has assisted numerous joint ventures companies in their incorporation in Qatar and in their negotiations with both the public and private sector.

Ben Moylan joins the firm as a partner from the Doha office of SNR Denton. Ben has spent four years working in Qatar, following a relocation from London. He has a wide range of experience in finance matters, including debt capital markets transactions, asset finance, acquisition finance, real estate investment and development finance arrangements, both conventional and Islamic, acting for borrowers and lenders across both public and private sectors.

As the Doha continues to expand as hub for business, particularly in the energy and construction fields, Jennifer Westall re-joins the firm as a principal associate, following a two year return to the UK where she latterly worked at Stephenson Harwood. Her experience spans advising clients in infrastructure projects in health, education and roads. She has previously spent over three years working for Eversheds in the State of Qatar where she advised both government entities and local and international companies on a variety of projects.

Another addition to the Middle East, is top flight financial services litigation partner Ben Bruton who transferred from the firm’s London office to Dubai to lead the region’s growing Financial Dispute Resolution Team.

As part of the firm’s international secondment programme, which enables junior and senior lawyers to transfer to other offices, Ben will be supported by UK based associates Clint Dempsey and Nick Sharratt, as the firm continues to increase the scope of work it does with financial institutions. Senior associate Geoff Allen will also begin a two year secondment from the UK to Riyadh, where he will be largely involved in multi-jurisdictional M&A work to support the firm’s growing corporate offering.

At the same time, Stuart Dutson returns to the UK after a six month secondment split between Africa and Dubai where he was heavily involved in international arbitration matters.

Chris Jobson, Eversheds Middle East Chairman commented:

“I am excited about our growth in the Middle East and these three new hires bring with them a wealth of experience which will be invaluable to our clients, we welcome them into the helm of the firm. As a firm, we work together ever more closely as one global team to meet the needs of our clients wherever we are based, our series of secondments across the globe is a crucial aspect of this and I look forward to seeing a continuing flow of secondees around the world.”
