Herbert Smith Freehills Makes Two Lateral Hires

Herbert Smith Freehills has made two new lateral hire partner appointments in Australia, with David Ryan joining the firm’s Corporate team in Sydney and David Lyons joining the Finance team in Brisbane, both commencing early this month.

These appointments bring additional expertise and market presence to Herbert Smith Freehills’ leading Corporate and Finance practices and will further enhance its ability to deliver the best commercial outcomes for clients.

David Ryan joins the team from Baker & McKenzie where he was a partner and Global Head of Mining and Metals. He will work with Herbert Smith Freehills’ Energy and Resources clients on M&A and general corporate activity. David has built a strong practice in the energy and resources sector with a focus on electricity/power and gas. His practice in Herbert Smith Freehills will continue to concentrate on M&A and providing general commercial advice.

David Lyons joins the team from Norton Rose Fulbright where he was a partner in the firm’s Finance practice. He has extensive experience in advising financial services clients on transactional, advisory/regulatory and corporate matters and encompasses infrastructure, resource and project finance, regulatory issues, capital markets as well as corporate, property, acquisition, asset, agricultural and trade finance. David also has a long standing interest in business and trade in Asia and is a board member of a number of Asian business councils and associations.
