Mayer Brown JSM expands global private equity and fund formation capabilities with arrival of Robert Woll in Hong Kong

Mayer Brown announced today that Robert Woll has joined the firm as a partner in the global Corporate & Securities practice and the Fund Formation & Investment Management group. A leader in the field of fund formation, Mr. Woll will further expand his work with private equity funds and institutional investors across the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. Woll focuses his practice on private equity fund formation and investment management matters. He advises both institutional and emerging independent managers on the formation of alternative asset management businesses and platforms, including buyout funds, growth equity funds, venture capital funds, infrastructure funds, real estate funds, special situations funds, fund-of-funds and co-investment vehicles. He also represents financial institutions, investors and entrepreneurs in fintech ventures.

Mr. Woll has nearly three decades of experience in private practice in Hong Kong, Beijing and the United States. In addition to his background in private equity, Mr. Woll has experience in M&A transactions, leveraged buyouts, project finance, capital markets and representing emerging growth companies.

Mr. Woll joins Mayer Brown JSM from Deacons, where he was a partner in that firm’s financial services practice group. Early in his career, he worked in the investment banking division of a major global bank. Mr. Woll has received numerous professional honors, including recognition in the private equity and investment funds fields by Chambers Asia-Pacific and as a leading lawyer in investment funds by The Legal 500. Before joining Deacons, Mr. Woll was with WilmerHale, where he chaired that firm’s China corporate practice and was a key partner in its fund formation practice. Mr. Woll is fluent in Mandarin and proficient in Russian and French. He earned his JD from Stanford University Law School and his AB from Princeton University.
