Pillsbury Adds Energy and Infrastructure Finance Partners in London and Abu Dhabi

Pillsbury today announced that James Simpson and Stephen Jurgenson have joined the firm’s Finance practice section as partners in its London and Abu Dhabi offices. Known for their respective work on power, water and infrastructure projects across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Simpson and Jurgenson are the newest members of Pillsbury’s Energy & Infrastructure Projects team. They arrive from Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP’s London and Abu Dhabi offices.

“Jim and Stephen are outstanding additions to our energy and infrastructure strengths in London and Abu Dhabi,” said Pillsbury Firm Chair Jim Rishwain. “In particular, they are an ideal fit for our growing Middle East practice, where Pillsbury’s experience in energy and infrastructure planning, financing and transactions sets our firm apart and keeps us well-positioned to work on diverse projects – from nuclear power and LNG to renewables and water – in a host of nations.”

“Stephen and Jim’s backgrounds across global energy, infrastructure and finance add greatly to the capabilities that our practice teams offer to clients,” said New York partner Mats G. Carlston, firmwide leader of Pillsbury’s global finance practice. “From finance and energy hubs in London, Houston, Tokyo, Shanghai, New York and now across the Gulf region, Pillsbury addresses the full range of project opportunities our clients seek – whether handling cross-border investment, risk and project management or complex financing arrangements with public and private partners.”

“Pillsbury’s strong Finance, Energy and Middle East practices make the firm a great fit for our clients,” said Jurgenson. “Moreover, the firm’s global platform and Abu Dhabi office make Pillsbury a compelling choice for the Middle East’s infrastructure developers and dealmakers.”

“Infrastructure projects of every variety are international affairs, as the world’s top suppliers of equipment, operating know-how and capital converge in mature and emerging markets,” Simpson added. “Pillsbury has an impressive multidisciplinary team of lawyers with the skills and experience in facilitating these types of projects, which will be in greater demand as global water concerns and similar trends propel new waves of infrastructure across the Middle East, Africa, Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and elsewhere.”

James Simpson formerly served as co-head of Dewey & LeBoeuf’s project finance and infrastructure practice and splits his time between his primary London office and Abu Dhabi. His sector experience spans energy, water/waste water, ports, airports, road projects, oil and gas, renewables and clean energy, as well as telecommunications and sports (i.e., stadium financings). His major clients have included sponsors, lenders, infrastructure funds, utilities and governments.
