Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that Alex Au has joined its Hong Kong office as of counsel. Au’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, foreign direct investment, and other corporate matters for companies in a broad range of industries. He joins Winston from the corporate department of DLA Piper Hong Kong.
Au has extensive experience advising international and local corporations and private equity funds in local and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity, equity and debt financing, corporate restructuring, foreign direct investments, distribution arrangements, and other corporate matters in China, Hong Kong, Macau, and other parts of Asia. In addition, his corporate practice includes advising Chinese corporations on outbound acquisitions and investments in Europe and the Americas.
“Alex is a welcome addition to our growing Hong Kong office,” said David Hall-Jones, managing partner of the firm’s Asia offices. “His experience allows us to better serve the corporate needs of our clients in Hong Kong, China, and Europe.”
Au received his LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong, and is admitted to practice as a solicitor in both Hong Kong and England and Wales. Au speaks and writes regularly about legal issues affecting his practice. In addition, he is the honorary legal advisor of a charitable organization based in Hong Kong.
Au’s arrival follows that of Tejinder S. Mahil and Shirley Fu who also recently joined Winston’s corporate department as partner and senior associate respectively. The new team in Hong Kong, to be led by Mahil, will focus on mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity investments, and hospitality and leisure general corporate transactions in Greater China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
