Clyde & Co announces a truly international 2010 Middle East summer placement programme

International law firm Clyde & Co has announced its 2010 Middle East summer placement programme, an intensively structured programme that will see 20 high-calibre university law-college students from around the globe converge on Clyde & Co’s Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar offices over the summer holiday months for a taste of what working in an international law firm is like.

Currently based in the UK, US, Canada, India and France, the students involved are all attendees of internationally recognised law colleges such as Georgetown University, University of Toronto and University of Birmingham.

In line with Clyde & Co’s regional strategic plan, the majority of students have close ties to the Middle East and are likely to qualify as lawyers into the region in the future. Specific to the GCC, this year’s programme includes four Emiratis, one Omani, one Qatari and one Saudi national among the students attending.

Abu Dhabi based Clyde & Co Corporate partner Niall O’Toole said: “We are very pleased to have such a large proportion of GCC nationals in this year’s placement programme. We have always considered that the long-term development of the firm requires us to invest in locally-connected talent; we remain committed to this approach and look forward to a successful placement programme.”

The 2010 vacation programme is structured so that five groups of students will participate in a two week programme that includes activities such as role play exercises; organised visits to places of importance; presentations on important legal topics, introductions to varied law practice areas; and dedicated one-to-one training. The students will also be given the opportunity to draft documents, attend meetings, liaise with clients and research varied areas of law.

Internationally, Clyde & Co is particularly well known for expertise in relation to international trade, emerging markets and in relation to high profile and/or difficult dispute resolution work.

Recently, Clyde & Co was voted Middle East Law Firm of the Year by legal market intelligence and transaction analysis provider ‘PLC Which Lawyer?’ in a process that canvassed over 5,500 legal departments worldwide.
