Stephenson Harwood advises on UK listed steel company Middle East alliance

International law firm Stephenson Harwood has advised Severfield-Rowen plc, the Yorkshire based structural steel group, on a collaboration agreement with Zamil Steel Industries, one of the Middle East’s leading structured steelwork fabricators, to provide enhanced structural steelwork design, fabrication and erection capability to clients across the Middle East and North Africa.

Severfield-Rowen will operate with Zamil in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, with the aim being to provide services for projects with high engineering content, such as stadiums, high rise buildings, airports, power plants and transport infrastructure.

The new agreement reflects Severfield-Rowen’s desire to work with leading local operators in selected overseas markets, and follows the opening in November 2010 of JSW Severfield Structures’ first steel fabrication plant in India to service the Indian markets.

Duncan Stiles, partner in the corporate practice at Stephenson Harwood, said: “I am delighted to have advised Severfield-Rowen on this agreement for the Middle East and North Africa, a region which offers excellent opportunities for both companies to realise their growth ambitions. Many prestigious projects are currently in the pipeline and this agreement brings together two of the leaders in the field of structured steelwork.”

Severfield-Rowen is the UK’s leading steel fabricator having supplied and erected the steelwork for major projects, such as Heathrow Terminal 5, the 2012 Olympic Stadium and principal recent London office developments, including One New Change, the Heron Tower and the ‘Shard of Glass’.

Stephenson Harwood IP partner Eifion Morris and corporate associate Milan Thakker also advised Severfield-Rowen on issues relating to the agreement.
