Willkie Advises on Sale of South Korea’s Top Social Commerce Site

On August 2, it was announced that online deals site LivingSocial has agreed to acquire Willkie client Ticket Monster, Inc., South Korea’s top social commerce site. Ticket Monster, known popularly in South Korea as TMon, has grown rapidly since its founding in May 2010. Ticket Monster, which in June purchased Malaysia’s Integrated Methods, has more than 600 employees and offers roughly 60 deals, travel packages and events to more than 2 million members in Korea and Malaysia. Washington-based LivingSocial is the second-largest deals provider after Groupon. It’s purchase of Ticket Monster represents its largest acquisition to date and will help it further its expansion into the Asian market, which for U.S.-based companies has historically been difficult to enter. The deal was handled by partners Gordon Caplan, Mark Getachew, Michael Katz and Hillel Jacobson; special counsel Kim Walker and associates Jared Nicholson, Michael Nieves and Tyler Ladner.
