Clyde & Co increases strength of Middle East expertise

Clyde & Co announced today the arrival of Martin Davies as a partner, joining from Howard Kennedy where he headed the firm’s specialist International Group. Martin, who has also been the elected Chairman of global legal network LAW for a number of years, will be based London but will have a key strategic role, focusing initially on the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as North America. This brings the firm’s lateral partner hires in the last 14 months to 27.

Peter Hasson, chief executive commented “We have a clearly defined strategy which aims to combine broad geographic growth with in-depth expertise in specific jurisdictions, practice areas and industry sectors.  Martin’s huge international experience, including several years in Saudi Arabia and Washington DC, working with corporates and prominent individuals will enhance the firm’s significant cross-border capability.

“Our commitment to the Middle East has been demonstrated by our substantial investment over the past several decades, and most recently the opening of our office in Saudi Arabia.  Our ability to bring added value and strategic global support to high profile individuals in the region – as well as their substantial corporate interests – is an important aspect of our business.  The firm’s Middle East practice is now better placed than ever to assist overseas companies doing business in Saudi Arabia, and Martin will be working closely with the firm’s resident Middle East and other partners to implement our strategy both regionally and globally.”

Martin has been involved in international legal work for over 25 years dealing with international trade, inward and multi-jurisdictional investment.  Significantly, he has combined his corporate practice with advising business owners and company boards, royal family members, leading merchants and high net worth individuals on their international affairs.  Martin is also a founding Trustee of the HRH the Duke of York’s newly established charitable foundation.

Martin Davies comments “Clyde & Co’s reputation in the Middle East is first class and its commitment to the region is self evident.  Given my longstanding involvement with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States and my wider international practice, this move is a logical next step and I am looking forward to taking up this newly created role.  Clyde & Co’s strong brand and expanding footprint both in the Middle East and globally is a perfect fit and I am very excited at having joined the firm and working with Clyde’s impressive team.”
