Stamford Law’s growth as a major regional player has received a significant boost with the admission of two international leading lawyers, Justyn Jagger and Timothy Cooke, and local talent, Wong Kee Fong, who bring extensive regional experience to the firm. Attracting leading international lawyers, Justyn Jagger and Timothy Cooke from recognised global practices is a real coup for Stamford Law and a milestone in its development as a major regional law firm.
This is a significant move particularly in light of the current influx of foreign firms, and the Singapore Government’s granting of additional Qualified Foreign Legal Practice licenses to foreign firms later this year. These hires represent a major endorsement of Stamford Law’s position as a serious regional player in the legal market and the attraction which firms such as Stamford Law hold for the best Singapore and international lawyers.
Justyn Jagger joined Stamford Law from DLA Piper Singapore, where he was the Co-Chair of the Global Arbitration Group and Head of Dispute Resolution for South East Asia. Justyn was also a leading partner in DLA Piper’s Insurance and Re-insurance group, where he worked on numerous groundbreaking insurance and re-insurance claims. He is a highlyregarded and experienced leading practitioner in the insurance, re-insurance and international arbitration sphere.
Timothy Cooke joined Stamford Law from Clyde & Co where he was a Legal Director in the Dispute Resolution group. He has practised in London, the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands. He has extensive experience in all areas of dispute resolution, with a focus on international commercial arbitration and is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
“We are further strengthening our firm with senior foreign legal talent. With this move, we are continuing the momentum and entrenching our standing as a force in the dispute resolution and international arbitration space.”
“These moves are bucking the trend of foreign practices increasing their presence in Singapore and luring talent away from leading Singapore firms. Our team has built a solid reputation as a leading regional practice, and we have what it takes to attract partner-level foreign legal talent. Our firm is client-focused and quality-driven and with these in hand, we also foster a collegiate spirit within the team. With Justyn, Timothy and Kee Fong joining our firm, we are continuing to increase our bench strength and expertise – building the strongest possible team – whilst taking advantage of the region’s continued development as a centre for excellent legal services,” said Mrs. Lee Suet-Fern, Senior Partner at Stamford Law.
“This is an exciting career move for me and one that provides tremendous opportunities for Stamford Law’s team and, most importantly, our clients,” said Justyn Jagger. “Stamford Law is highly regarded in the Asian and international legal markets. It provides an excellent platform for any talented Singapore or international lawyer who is motivated by providing excellent legal service to the firm’s clients and wants to build a leading law practice. Stamford Law is ideally positioned to act for clients in the region and are proven leaders in the industry.” Jagger continues, “What is of real value is the firm’s focus on quality, client delivery, collegiality and, in practical terms, its ability to represent its clients both in the Singapore courts as well as in the international arbitration centres in Asia and globally. This is particularly important as Singapore cements its position as the leading dispute resolution hub in Asia. The firm also has access to an excellent network of independent law firms from which we are able to select the best firm to represent our clients in any jurisdiction. In addition to this, Stamford Law’s strategy based on sector-focused growth both in Singapore and internationally ensures that the firm continues to provide a responsive and clientfocused team of lawyers who are leaders in their chosen field and their clients’ industry.”
Wong Kee Fong, a senior-level practitioner, joined Stamford Law as a Director in the Banking & Finance practice as part of the strategic regional growth across practices of the firm. She was previously a Vice President in Legal at an international bank. Prior to that, she had been working in the foreign and Singapore offices of an established international firm, specialising in banking and finance.
These significant hires are a strong reflection of Stamford Law’s global position as well as its continued business practice in improving and developing its people, expertise and teams.
