Troutman Sanders Expands International Corporate Practice with New Partner in Shanghai

Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Chengfei Ding has joined the firm’s Corporate practice as a partner in the Shanghai office. Ding was previously special counsel at Baker & McKenzie in Beijing, where he focused on capital markets transactions, cross-border investments, private equity and M&A.

Before practicing in China, Ding was in-house counsel at Principal Financial Group, where he was responsible for insurance, pension, asset management and securities matters, including capital markets transactions and group annuity contracts.

“Chengfei is an important addition to our Shanghai office as we continue to grow our China presence,” said Robert W. In addition to Shanghai, the firm also handles matters for its clients from Beijing and Hong Kong.

“Having worked previously with Troutman Sanders’ lawyers in Asia, I know the commitment the firm has to this market and I am looking forward to joining and collaborating with this extremely capable and formidable corporate team,” said Ding.

“Chengfei’s arrival is a great addition to our firm and to Shanghai in particular,” said Edward Epstein, managing partner of the firm’s Shanghai office. “We have a mature corporate practice in Shanghai and Chengfei will play an important role in our expansion strategy.”

Ding is a 1997 graduate of the Peking University in Beijing, China, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in English, and is a 2002 graduate from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. He is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and is admitted to the State Bar of New York.
